March 13, 2011

Dear Bridgeton Residents,

With the support of my wife and family, I have decided to seek another term as Mayor of the City of Bridgeton in the April 5, 2011 election.  I am very proud of the progress our City has recently made and I wish to build on this progress.

Following intense negotiations over several years, the Cities of Bridgeton and St. Louis reached an agreement in 2007, settling all outstanding litigation.  This agreement provided the funding for the New Government Center, which our City now occupies.  Also Bridgeton is making tremendous progress in the area of economic development.  The City has finalized the zoning requirements and approved the necessary permits for the new Wal-Mart Super Center, to be located on the former Grandpa Pigeon’s site.  Already three new restaurants have opened in this immediate area.

Despite recent and current economic challenges, Bridgeton has avoided layoffs and has not reduced services.  Our City remains financially strong.  We have a 0% personal property tax rate and a token real property tax of 16 cents (per hundred), which is one of the lowest in the Metro area.  These rates have remained unchanged as long as I have been involved in the City.  In spite of very strong opposition on major metropolitan issues I have been able to maintain a very professional image for the City.  In fact many applicants have commented on how professional Bridgeton meetings are conducted.

Bridgeton is one of the best-kept secrets in St. Louis County.  We need to show pride in our community by talking about its many outstanding features. We have an outstanding park system and services for our residents.  Many developers have complemented the city on the professional atmosphere and the assistance provided by our staff.  I have and will continue to fight hard for Bridgeton and take pride in serving the City of Bridgeton.

Progress, Professionalism and Pride are the keywords that describe my approach as Mayor.  I believe the City of Bridgeton is moving in a positive direction and again I believe I can keep Bridgeton moving forward.

Sincerely,

Conrad Bowers

MAYOR BOWERS SEEKS RE-ELECTION

BRIDGETON MUNICIPAL ELECTION APRIL 5, 2011

Conrad Bowers announced that he is seeking re-election in the April 5, 2011 election.  He has served the City of Bridgeton, Missouri as an elected official since 1980.  He served as a council member from 1980 to 1987.  In 1987 he was elected mayor and currently is serving his sixth four-year term.  He has a B.S. degree in engineering, a M.A. in mathematics and a MBA and was employed in the information technology field for 30 years.  He is retired from the EDS Corporation and remains active with his own company, LinCon LLC.

Mayor Bowers is pleased with the progress Bridgeton has made since the setback created by airport expansion. The City of Bridgeton has settled all litigation with the airport, constructed a new government center and is making progress with economic development in our city. Even with the unfavorable economic conditions the City of Bridgeton has been able to improve city services and avoid reductions of city personnel.

Currently Mayor Bowers serves on the Board for the Missouri Municipal League, Advisory Board for the National League of Cities, Board member for the St. Louis Metro Mayors, Advisory Board for DePaul Hospital and the Board for N. W. County Police Drug Enforcement Group. Past activities include:

Conrad and his wife Linda, a retired Pattonville High School art teacher, have been residents of Bridgeton for 45 years.  Hobbies and interests include water skiing (still), an avid reader, gardening, antique farm tractors, and attending University of Missouri football games.  Also he earned a private pilots license during 2006 and enjoys flying.

During the next four years it is critical that Bridgeton continue with economic development and sound financial practices established during Mayor Bowers administration.  The City of Bridgeton is one of the best-kept secrets in the metropolitan area.  City services and facilities are unequaled. Mayor Bowers feels that he and all elected officials need to do a better job of selling the City.

If you would like to assist in the re-election effort for Mayor Bowers please contact him at 314-209-0222 or PO Box 645, Bridgeton, MO 63044.
